Presiding Elder Ralph Johnson
A Powerhouse of the LORD

The Reverend Ralph Edward Johnson is a son of the parsonage, born to the late Reverend L.W. and Mrs. Lucile Johnson. Being four years older than his brother and younger sister, he taught them to play church. Not only that, but he would lead them in worship services where he was the preacher. He would simulate his father and other ministers he had heard preaching.
Presiding Elder Johnson has been in the African Methodist Episcopal Church all his life, he started singing in the choir at age six, and has served in his local church as youth choir president, usher, steward, trustee, Church School teacher, president of his local ACE and church custodian.
He is the first graduate of the Fisk-Vanderbilt Universities’ Dual-Degree Program, with a B.A. in Physics from Fisk University, Nashville, Tennessee (1977) and a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt, Nashville, Tennessee (1977), he retired in 2005 as an electrical engineer from the Tennessee Valley Authority. He is currently employed as a teacher with the Sumner County School System.
He is a life-time member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity #5500; he served as District Representative in Kentucky and Tennessee. He is also a member of Freemont Lodge #270 of Free and Accepted Masons, and the NAACP.
Approximately one year after being licensed to preach by former Presiding Elder W. F. Scruggs, he was sent out to be the under-shepherd of various congregations. On October 26, 1986, he was ordained Itinerant Elder under the hand of the late Bishop Cornelius Egbert Thomas.
He is a very serious and dignified preacher, whose favorite thing to do is talking and teaching young people: discussing their problems and making them aware that there is a place in this world for each one; he wants them to realize that they can make a difference.
Reverend Johnson’s joy and spice is the former Patricia Ann Bender, and together they have gifted the world with their daughter, Kanisha Lynn and their son, Lawrence Daniel.
